What I do: I am the Lead Minister (Pastor) with primary responsibility for worship and preaching, adult discipleship development and pastoral care. That sounds pretty boring - but in reality my job is extremely varied and always on the go, and I love it!
I'm actively involved in the community of Maple Ridge as a Board member of the Ridge Meadows Hospice Society and as of February 2023 the Chaplain to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 88. In my spare time I am obsessed with all things EV (Electric-Vehicle) and try to convince everyone to make the switch.
How long have I been at Golden Ears United: I served part-time as a student minister at Hammond United from January 2011, and when Hammond amalgamated with St. Andrew's (Haney) in May 2012, I was excited to be called to the newly transfigured Golden Ears United Church.
How did I get here: I was lured over to Canada from Ireland by my now wife Estelle. I have a BA and MA in Biochemistry from Trinity College Dublin, a Master of Divinity from the Vancouver School of Theology. I grew up in the Roman Catholic Church and am grateful to have found a welcoming and accepting home with the United Church of Canada.
What is my favourite thing about ministry at Golden Ears United Church: The people are truly welcoming and affirming of the LGBTQ+ community. They are actively involved in living out their discipleship through ministry in the community. They are doing amazing things like supporting refugees, fundraising for African Grandmothers and the Stephen Lewis Foundation, victim services, advocating for seniors, teaching children to read, hospice and hospital visiting and many more volunteer activities. They are also incredibly fun and really care for each other.
